Here is what will happen. Not very many years from now, much relaxed and pleased to get together for a visit in a different city they are both passing through from different directions, one of these boys is going to turn to another of these boys over their drinks, and say, "You know, I was in love with you for four years." And the other boy's heart will absolutely sink, because he was, too, and dreamed of nothing else, discarding it as inconceivable, but he can not say that now, because his friend has moved on, come out, and found a full relationship. He will be suspended in that conversation for decades.
