This goes way back, some 20 yr, and may represent 2 or 3 generations of re-working from the underlying image. But my guess is Nick Backes, who had (if it isn't still flourishing) quite a spiffy little greeting card business operating out of Mills College Station in Oakland, California. But the image has launched quite a lot more than a thousand ships, and one of those mariners is bound to set us straight.
sorry Laurent, maybe it is the color that misleads here: the original is black and white and by the ultimate master of black inkdot perversity: REX ! on www.delftboys.com you can find the original as well as the model photograph he used as inspiration. Ad Delft NL
about the male gaze, about jockstraps, vintage beauty, remembered lust, wrestlers' singlets, fragile soldiers, jock's shorts, pretty boys, difficult confessions, self-portraiture, timid suggestions & astonishing, magnificent ghosts
ODE
All these beautiful boys, shot by amateurs photographers, smiling in front ov the camera, laughing and playing with buddies...all is over now, the buddies, the models, the camera and the photographers. -DJAM'L
